Craps Tips and Strategy

Craps is generally considered a pure game of chance rather than skill. However, if you are gambling on craps, it is important to make the best choices when selecting your bet type and style of play. This takes intelligence, awareness and general knowledge of the game. Once you’re learned the basic rules, get familiar with craps tips and strategy for the most enjoyable, as well as potentially profitable, experience playing this exciting game. The majority of the following tips and strategies can be used successfully whether you are playing at a land based casino, on your PC in the quiet of your own home or on the go using your mobile phone.

To Start Out

When you are just starting out, study the rules of craps, and then go and practice. Online craps games at Internet or mobile casinos are great for this. Many of them offer free craps games, where you can practice placing various bets without committing any of your cash. When you’re playing online, you can keep a copy of the rules and bet list at hand, either in another tab or on a print out, for quick consultation. After a while, you’ll be ready to join in some “play for real money” games. At this point, try wagering some small amounts without worrying about whether you’ll win – consider the money your tuition fee! Even as an experienced player, you can’t expect to win every time.

House Edge

Try to choose a casino with the lowest house edge (the percentage of all player bets that goes to the house – in other words, the casino’s gross profit). That means higher payouts for you. In the beginning, stick with the basic bets -- Pass, Come, Don’t Pass and Don’t Come. These have a fairly low house edge of about 1.4 percent. Avoid the proposition bets, located at the center of the craps table; they have the highest house edge of any craps bet. If you are in a brick and mortar casino you might want to experiment a little by copying the bets of the player with the biggest stack of chips.

Some Craps Strategies

Here are a few general craps strategies that will help you get started. First, try beginning with a Pass Line bet. Keep betting the same thing with every roll of the dice. When the Shooter sets a Point, add a Single Odds bet next to your original Pass Line bet. Second, use progressive betting. This means, quite simply, that you raise your bet when you are winning and lower it when you are losing. And finally, the oldest of all craps tips and strategies for successful gamblers: Set a budget before you play and stick to it. Don’t gamble more than you can afford.
